Alberta Observes October as Islamic Heritage Month

Muhammed Yaseen, Associate minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism of Alberta has shared the following thoughts on the month of Islamic heritage. He joyfully expressed that Islamic Heritage Month is a celebration of rich and varied history of the Islamic faith in Alberta and around the world. He announced that the province will celebrate October as the month of Alberta’s Islamic heritage.

Alberta has been home to many Muslims even before it was a province. Even after 84 years, Canada’s first mosque, the Al Rashid Mosque, stands as a proud landmark in the city of Edmonton. The Muslim community in Alberta continues to expand, prosper, and make significant contributions to the province.

The fact that he resides in a province that upholds the right for everyone to publicly celebrate and practice their customs brings in joy, the minister added in his speech. He said he encourages all to stand up against prejudice, irrespective of their spiritual practices or cultural background with the help of many initiatives, one of them being the province’s Anti-Racism Action Plan.

Yaseen and his colleagues work diligently towards putting an end to racism in Alberta; they welcome immigrants contributing to Alberta from different walks of life. He urges Albertans to participate in community activities throughout the month of October and express their interest in their Muslim neighbors as Albertans learn and respect Alberta’s rich Islamic heritage.
