Country-wise Checklists

There are a few things to keep in mind when you think of visiting Canada. Depending on your country of citizenship, the requirements you need to suffice with respect to your visit visa application may differ.

Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) OR electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to Canada?

Depending on your country of citizenship, you would need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or an electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to come to Canada. If you need a TRV to come to Canada, then you will not need an eTA. Similarly, if what you need is an eTA to come to Canada, they you will not need a TRV. Citizens of USA do not need a TRV or an eTA to come to Canada, however, green card holders in the US need an eTA to come to Canada as visitors.

Do I need to submit a medical test report before I can go to Canada?

A medical examination is not always required for a person to be granted entry into Canada. The requirement for medical examination stems from medical inadmissibility grounds, and is based on scientific facts, including but not limited to:

  • Diseases that are endemic in certain countries and which may pose health risks to Canadian citizens and permanent residents;
  • As a person continues to live in an environment, he or she may develop resistance to the pathogens that are prevalent in that area. However, when that person re-enters Canada, the Canadian citizen or permanent resident may not have developed that resistance to that specific pathogen, etc.

Do I need to submit my biometrics before I can go to Canada?

If you are planning to visit Canada, depending on your country of citizenship, you may have to provide your biometrics (fingerprint and photo). The biometric requirement is part of the country’s safety and security measures. In fact, the applicants too benefit by a smooth and fast processing that takes only a few minutes.
