Invitation to Apply (ITA)

Invitation to Apply (ITA) is an immigration document issued by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) inviting the applicant to whom it has been issued to apply for Canadian permanent residency.

The Invitation to Apply (ITA) is not in any means permanent residency. An applicant is granted permanent residency if the factors based on which he or she was issued the invitation is proven accurately in his or her application for permanent residency (APR) within 90 days from the date the ITA was issued to him or her.

An ITA is issued to a candidate based on his or her CRS score in the Express Entry pool at the time the selection draw happened. To learn about the Express Entry selection draws, click here.

Sometimes, it may also happen that all not all the candidates with the draw score (the cut-off score announced during an Express Entry draw) may receive the Invitation to Apply (ITA). Such a situation is commonly referred to as the "Lock Score scenario". To learn more about the Lock Score scenarios, click here.
