The PNPs enable provincial governments to choose candidates who have a high likelihood of establishing themselves economically within the province, for economic immigration into the province…
Last week, four Canadian provinces issued invitations for candidates. All Canadian provinces and territories, except Quebec and Nunavut, operate Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). The PNPs enable provincial governments to choose candidates who have a high likelihood of establishing themselves economically within the province, for economic immigration into the province.
Provinces select candidates through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). The selection process can be based on various attributes that change with time and specific provinces’ needs. Once a province nominates a candidate, the application gets forwarded to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for the final approval of permanent residence. While a provincial nomination alone does not grant permanent residency to candidates, it significantly enhances their application, especially for Express Entry candidates who receive an extra 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points alongside their initial score.
Ontario | via Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)
On January 18, Ontario through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued invitations to 984 candidates from the Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Workers stream.
This draw was comprehensive, with no specific occupations outlined. All candidates selected were part of the Express Entry application pool and had a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score ranging from 317 to 469.
British Columbia | via BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)
On January 16,British Columbia issued invitations to over 193 candidates from the Skilled Worker and International Graduate streams of the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). The invitations were distributed through five separate draws, each focusing a specific occupation.
The largest draw targeted 91 candidates in tech occupations, requiring a minimum score of 103 to get invited. Additionally, the province invited 20 candidates in construction occupations with a minimum score of 75. For the remaining three draws, based on specific occupations, all candidates needed a minimum score of 60 for consideration:
Childcare: 53 candidates,
Healthcare: 29 candidates, and
Veterinary care: Less than five candidates.
Alberta | via Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)
Alberta recently released the results of three draws that were conducted in January under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). All candidates were part of the Express Entry application pool.
The province conducted two draws specifically for candidates in the dedicated healthcare pathway with an Alberta job offer stream. The first draw was conducted on January 2, inviting 42 candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 309. The second draw took place on January 16, and candidates needed a minimum score of 312 to get invited.
The draw on January 11 saw 44 candidates invited, and all the invited candidates had met the eligibility criteria for the Priority sector - Agriculture occupation with an Alberta job offer. The required minimum score was 312.
Prince Edward Island | via PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
On January 18, Prince Edward Island (PEI) issued invitations to 134 candidates through the Express Entry, Skilled Worker, and Critical Worker Streams of the PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). To be eligible, candidates required to have a minimum point score of 65. This marked the initial Express Entry draw for PEI in the year 2024.
